SOCCER
The
GCMS Men Soccer team started of their season with a 4-0 victory over cross-town
rival Mayfield Middle on Monday night. The team is continuing their stellar
defense from last year’s regional championship season. Carson Elliot a returning member of last
years team had this to say about their game on Monday, “I think we did very
well for our first game. We do need some improvement but we can do it as a
team.” Another member of the team, Jase Parker, had this to say about the
team,” Ricardo did very good for his first game as a Middle School player.”
Ricardo, a very skilled player, scored 2 goals, as he led the Eagles in scoring.
We hope to see all of you eagle fans coming out to support your Graves County
Eagles.

Girls’ Soccer
This past Monday the Graves County
Middle School 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls
faced against Mayfield. This game went into “Mercy Rule” for our Lady Eagles.
This means that our girls outscored Mayfield to a distinct high score, so the
game just ends. The Lady Eagles had a score of 10-0 with the mercy rule kicking
in with 15:46 left in the second half.
GREAT JOB
LADIES!

GCHS
BASEBALL
As
some of you might know baseball season is under way and some of our very own
GCMS eagles are playing for the JV and Varsity teams. The athletes that are
competing at the High School level include Gage Mathis, Trevor Grant, and Clint
Williams. The team is off to a hot start
to their season by starting 3-1 this year. The team will look to improve on
this as they move forward throughout the year.

Girl’s Basketball
The
7th and 8th grade girl’s summer league has come to a fresh
start. The 7th grade girls that were interested in playing had their
first tryout day Wednesday, March 19. They will undergo final tryout day today,
March 20. These young girls will find out whether or not they made the team.
The 8th grade girls are
having their tryouts very soon this week. There are several 7th
graders that want to play basketball their 8th grade year. I think
this year will have a very big turnout for this year’s basketball teams.
We are hoping for both teams to have
an amazing season and to have fun during this experience in their middle school year.
3/13/14
BOYS SOCCER
The GCMS
boys soccer team recently had their tryouts for this season’s team. They had a
small turnout with only about 15 players showing up. They have big shoes to
fill after last year’s team winning the regional championship. The returning
players from last year’s squad are Camden Pickens, Issac Gream, Cole Martin,
and Jase Parker. They will have to be prepared to play soon, because the team’s
games will start later this month. We can’t wait to see all the Eagle fans out
there for another great season.
2/13/14
Girls Soccer
Middle
school soccer is starting up. Tryouts were held last week and 36 girls made the
team. The Lady Eagles are looking like they will be a pretty hard team to beat
this year. The girls’ team has been practicing all week. When it is too cold to
play soccer outside, they have practice in the gym. That is pure dedication. When
games start, come out and support you Lady Eagles! WE <3 GC! J
BASEBALL
Girls Soccer
These past couple days, the 8th
grade girls tried out for the soccer team. This year they are splitting up into
an A and B team and they split their games. The girls find out next week
whether they made the team or not. We will post the roster next week. Make sure you go out and support your Lady
Eagle soccer team! Stay tuned! :)
8th Grade Boys State Tournament
This weekend the 8th grade
middle school basketball team finished 12th in the state tournament
out of 81 teams. Their success was inspired by their coach, Matthew Kimbler. “It
was a great success for are school program and a good experience for the kids.”
Their loss put their season to 31-4, one of the best middle school performances
in Graves County. The season was one of the best. We had a good year and hopes
for better!

This upcoming weekend, the boys eighth grade

They also recently defeated Benton middle school this past Thursday night by more than 20 points, cruising on their way to the final game. This years 7th grade boys have not had showed their true potential. They have the talent and desire to win, but they do not have the experience and the chemistry they require to succeed. They have finished out the season strong with their first two wins of the year. The boys look to win out as their seasons come to a close.

North Marshall Christmas Tournament 2013
Both our 8th boys and girls had tremendous tournaments this past weekend, with both teams taking home the trophy. The boys started off the tournament last Thursday night beating Calloway pretty handily and then fending off North Marshall in the second round and putting them out in their own tournament. The boys went on to beat Benton in the championship game with the help of some clutch free throws close to the end of regulation. The girls beat North Marshall in the first round, going on to beat Mayfield in the semi-finals and finishing off the weekend on a good note by pummeling Benton in the finals.

This year’s
season has started off with a boom! The
8th grade girls team is still undefeated while the 8th grade boys have only
suffered one loss to Tilghman, falling short by only 5 points. The 7th grade
Eagle teams have had a slow start, but have a bright path ahead of them and
look to get on a roll in their next few games. The 8th grade boys won their
last two games against Calloway County and Heath middle school and are on a two
game winning streak. The boys are heading into the meat of their schedule with
a bunch of tough games ahead of them. This years team is very tough so they
will do just fine. The girls look very good this year and look to remain
unbeaten. This years Eagles are going to be very exciting so come on out and
enjoy some good basketball!

#Cheerlyfe
By: Grace Thomasson
This year our GCMS cheerleaders have become a competitive
cheer squad. Cheerleading was recognized
as a sport according to Sports Accord (a global governing body of sports) in
June 2013. Our cheerleaders will be in the Kapos Region 1 when they compete
this year. Another change for the team is that they have become co-ed. When asked about going co-ed, Mrs. Ralph,
cheer coach, said, “We become coed because we needed the “Man Power”. Co-ed
means being put in a different category, and it reduces the girl drama. The boy
on the coed team this year is seventh grader Devin Brassford. He makes a big
difference being on the team because he is a boy and adds that “Man Power”.”
Mrs. Ralph told me that she is very excited about the team
this year! She said “As a squad we want to encourage students and faculty to
dress up for spirit days and come to games. Supporting our school makes all the
difference!”

We asked
head coach, Tim Williams, what he thought about this year’s team and here’s
what he said, “I really believe that we have the opportunity to win all of our
games this year.”
We surveyed
some of our eighth grade football players: Preston Puckett,
Chase Whitis, Luke Willis, Ethan Jordan, Jonathan Maldonaldo, Gage Mathis and
Logan Courtney and they all said they thought this team will be better than
last year’s team.
We asked
coach Williams how he thought this season will stack up against lasts year’s
season and he said, “A years’ experience at the middle school level helps. It
sometimes takes a year or season to make the adjustment from little league to
middle school football.”
Our fan
support last year was great…but this season, our Eagles need more support! So
come on out and support your Graves County Eagles in hopes of a state
championship!
